Madras Collection Kitchen Towel - Furoshiki
What is Furoshiki?
Furoshiki is a square-shaped Japanese traditional wrapping cloth that is eco-friendly and mostly used for wrapping gifts, carrying goods or just as a decoration.
What are Furoshiki Made Of?
Japanese Furoshiki can be made of so many different types of fabric, depending on what you want to use it for! Silk, cotton, rayon, nylon, canvas, or other Japanese fabrics are all often used.
Essentially the only real rule is that if it can be folded and used like a Furoshiki, it is one!
Enjoy this kitchen towel from Madras Collection made from 100% GOTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC natural, OEKO TEX Standard 100, responsibly-farmed, renewable and sustainable cotton. Free of harsh or harmful chemicals, each one can help save dozens or even hundreds of trees by replacing the need for paper towels and other paper-based products. When it is at the end of it's life, simply cut into very small pieces, add to your compost pile (put in pick-up compost bin) or bury in your flower bed or garden. The pieces will help the soil maintain water and will biodegrade in 1 week to 5 months (depending on the size of the pieces). For best absorbancy, wash before using.

Handmade Seed Embedded Paper
The paper used to display the QR Code is handmade in Nepal by rural craftspeople in an environmentally friendly process with 50% recycled content. The raw material in this paper is the Daphne bush. It is farmed and harvested from 3-4 year old plants that are cut and stripped of bark. The plant is not destroyed when cut down and it regenerates from the root. The cane like stick, once the bark is removed, is dried and used to heat the villager's homes, as fuel for cooking and in the production of this paper. All water used in the paper production is reclaimed and reused. The bark is beaten by hand, boiled into pulp, mixed with recycled pulp & paper scrap collected from the card and envelope manufacturing process) then pored into screens to form sheets. The sheets are then dried in the sun. The entire process is earth friendly and provides a community with a healthy enterprise.
You can choose to recycle this paper, compost it, or even plant it and watch flowers bloom. Each sheet is embedded with seeds that will grow in North America. Seeds in the paper include 10 annual and perennial species which tolerate partial shade, need 4 hours a day of direct sunlight, and grow to about 3 feet. Seeds include Snapdragon, Petunia, Beardtounge, Daisy, Thyme, Poppy, Foxglove, Catchfly, Maiden Pinks, Chamomile. If you plant this paper in a pot or in your garden please cover with 1/8" of soil to keep it moist until established; as germinating seeds and seedlings cannot survive even a brief drought.

Our Box is a Boox
Booxes are made from corrugated polypropylene sheets, using a patent-pending design. Produced in the US from a combination of new and post-consumer polypropylene (#5 on the recycled plastics chart – PCR). Boox has a goal to improve the post-consumer percentage over time, eventually getting to 100% PCR. They are also experimenting with material made from ocean plastics and other sources. Boox chose polypropylene (PP) for a variety of reasons— It’s waterproof, tear-proof, and lighter than cardboard, while still being rigid and durable enough to protect products during shipping. That means each Boox box can be reused many times before reaching the end of life. But, at end of life, PP can be processed back into more Booxes efficiently. Many people think of plastics as detrimental to the environment. Boox would like to encourage people to think differently about it— SINGLE-USE plastics (but really any single-use product) are bad for the environment and can end up in rivers and oceans where they don’t degrade for a long time. But, that same longevity can be put to great use if we can change the culture of consumption and shift towards the circular economy.
Scan the QR Code on the Boox to return it so it can be used again and again and again and again ...
