Turkish towels are different than standard cotton towels, but their care is simple. Follow these steps to keep your towel looking and feeling amazing.
Wash the Turkish towel before using. Pre-washing will create the most absorbency. For best results, soak the towel in cool water overnight. This will help the towel become more absorbent.
Use a gentle cycle on your washing machine and low heat on the dryer. Avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheets, wool dryer balls are the best option. And of course, avoid bleach! Turkish towels air dry very quickly, so hang them to dry, which is always best for the planet.
When you are done with the towel, donate if it's still in usable condition, if not follow the steps below:
- Simply cut into very small pieces, add to your compost pile (put in pick-up compost bin) or bury in your flower bed or garden. The pieces will help the soil maintain water and will biodegrade in 1 week to 5 months (depending on the size of the pieces).
